Downtown Santa Barbara is one the country’s most fun and attractive commercial strips. In its 12-block by 2-block main grid, there are more than 100 fine restaurants and cafes, 3 major performing arts theaters, movie theaters, numerous live music and nightlife clubs, dozens of boutique shops, a substantial fine art museum, and many beautiful municipal buildings and parks, all accented by Santa Barbara’s trademark landscaping. The housing stock in the adjacent blocks near downtown is mostly smaller cottage-style homes from the 1910’s to 1940’s. In the commercial center itself, the only housing is newer luxury condominiums in the $1.25M-$2.5M range, and for now, none have been built right on the main drag (State Street).
