The first grand homes of Santa Barbara were built in the Upper East neighborhood from the 1890’s to the 1930’s. The homes from that era are largely in the craftsman, Victorian, colonial and other traditional large-home styles, similar to ones you could find in Pasadena or Palo Alto. On the edges of the Upper East are some smaller mid-century homes and many of the older homes have been stunningly restored. The price range for this variety of homes is mostly $1.5M-$5M. The area is in a grid format of flat and gently sloping tree-lined quiet streets, just below the Santa Barbara Mission and a mile walk on average to downtown Santa Barbara.
