More of a typical suburban town than its more eclectic Santa Barbara neighbor, Goleta still offers the same world-famous climate and location. Most of the homes are in tracts from the 1960’s and ‘70s, with a small scattering of newer subdivisions from the last 3 decades. There are more traditional commercial shopping centers in Goleta, including one “big-box” center. Many high-tech firms have their operations here, including the high-salary fields of graphic imaging, medical products, defense industries and internet software. The strong Goleta economy is fueled by the never-ending stream of start-up companies coming from the adjacent UC Santa Barbara community.
